Entry #8
2021 NBA MVP Race
We are twenty games into the 2021 NBA Season, with many teams exceeding expectations and others trying to get over a slump or losing streak. If we put team accolades aside and focus on the individual performance by player, the MVP race is a lot closer than people think with two players who are playing at an MVP level which are Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant.
With the Western Conference always being a tough conference to play in, it seems like it gets harder and harder every year to make it out on top compared to the Eastern Conference. As a surprise to many people, the Golden State Warrior's lead the conference with a record of 16-2. The man thats mostly responsible for the early success is no other than Stephen Curry who is currently averaging 25.5 PPG, 6.1 RPG and 6.5 APG. The majority of games, Curry shoots lights out from the three point line with sometimes missing one or two shots from the field. Klay Thompson may return soon from ACL injury he suffered in the playoffs last year and some say that not only will the team be more dangerous, he'll be in the conversation of being MVP.
The Brooklyn Nets have three of the best scorers the game has ever seen, those three players are Kyrie Irving, James Harden and Kevin Durant. The Nets sit at the top the East with a record of 14-5 but have won eight out of there last ten games. Kevin Durant leads the team with 28.6 PPG, 7.9 RPG, 4.9 APG and his ability to score the ball is out of this world. Kevin Durant has had multiple thirty point games to help carry the Nets over team but people say he doesn't deserve it because of the other superstars he has on his team. In my opinion if I had to the MVP award this early into the season, Stephen Curry would be walking away with it because of his individual performance and team impact.

I wonder how much better the Nets would be doing if they made it Kyrie was playing. They are doing pretty good so far without him, but it's interesting to see how far they'll make it in the playoffs. Also although I am a Lakers fan I would say that Curry is doing amazing this season especially with that 50 point game.
